What Being a Fit Family Means to Me
My name is Jared Winsor. I am 28 years old who
has a wife that is 24. We have a daughter who just
turned 3 and a newborn baby boy. I jumped at this
opportunity to enter the Fit City because I believe
a fit family is important. To me a fit family is a
healthy family, and a family that makes exercise and
nutrition a priority. Unfortunately, I have not done
the best job at this. I need to step up as the
leader of my home to set the proper example. I want
to be healthy so I can take care of my wife and
children in years to come. My parents are both in
their 50's and have diabetes. My Dad just had to
undergo another intensive eye surgery. His diabetes
is causing him to lose his sight. The has been a big
wake up call for me. I want my family to be a Fit
Family so we can have the best chances of being
healthy in the future. Plus, being fit, makes you
happier. So, A FIT FAMILY IS A HAPPY FAMILY!

What Being Fit Means To Me
A year ago I weighed more than three average
sized people. I had heart problems, high cholesterol
and a host of other weight related complications. I
had gastric bypass surgery; this was no magic
bullet. I have worked harder at this diet than I
have at any other program. We joined the YMCA, play
volleyball with friends, hike mountains, and I ride
my bicycle to work. I look for every opportunity I
can to get my body moving.
I include my family in my effort. I don't make
special meals for myself, while continuing to feed
my family the junk food that got me in the bind I
was in. Though they complained at first, they soon
adjusted to our new eating patterns. They started
reaching for yogurt and fruit in place of less
nutritious snacks. Every member of my family has
joined me in the activities that have already helped
me to lose 130 lbs. Some days the kids will even
argue about who goes to work out with me. It gives
me hope that I am passing down good habits that
could last them a lifetime. To me, that is a fit
family.
